Interview with AJ Bailey

Hello AJ, for those who might not know you, what is your name and please describe yourself?

I’m AJ Bailey. I’m a tall leggy blonde with blue eyes and I’m a Vivid Girl.

What prompted you to come and join the adult industry?

Originally I came into the business as a creative way to earn some money to pay for graduate school overseas. I was a fan of the adult industry and one of my favorite websites had an advertisement for models. That was in 2006. I came back in 2009 because I had really enjoyed it the first time.

You are known as the “Smartest Woman in Porn”. Do you know how that started and if so can you tell us about it?

Yes. I believe I acquired the title because I have a Masters degree from an Ivy League university. The same university Prince William attended actually. I have been put to the test a number of times and have passed. However the title itself stems purely from my education. I believe TMZ.com was the first to coin the phrase and when I did well on The Howard Stern show in a quiz, he confirmed that I “really was the smartest girl in porn.”

Your first movie, The AJ Bailey Experiment, came out a little while ago. How has the response been so far to your performance?

Luckily the reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. I don’t “act” while I’m shooting scenes. Everything you see is real, no matter how loud, or obnoxious for that matter. I had a great time filming, and it was a sort of documentary of my first boy girl scenes. I am proud of it. It’s a great DVD, and everyone is liking it!

What was it like when Vivid offered you a contract with them? Was it something you were seeking or did it kind of just happen?

I was seeking a contract, and I have a massive amount of respect for Vivid. I had never done boy/girl on camera and wanted to do it in a contract setting. A friend of mine sent pictures of me to Vivid and we sort of clicked right away. I was very fortunate and I’m very happy at the way things turned out.

Up to this point what has been your favorite scene?

Every scene has seemed really different. Director B. Skow makes fun of me because every scene I do I always say “That’s me favorite one yet!” I just wrapped a horror themed movie that was really fun to shoot. I did a great scene with Misty Stone and James Deen that I think will be amazing to watch. Deen worked it out! I also did a great one with Billy Glide recently. I love working with him. He’s great.

What would your advice be for someone that wants to pursue a career in the adult business?

I would just say to be sure that it’s something you really want to do. Do your research, know your limits, and get a good agent or contract with a good company. Feel free to say “no”. Don’t lose yourself in it, and be confident!

Now you haven’t been in the business that long at this point but who is out there that you really want to work with?

I think I really get to work with the best people. Sometimes I don’t even know the talent I’m working with for a particular scene and then I meet them and love them and want to work with them again. I hear Manuel (Ferrera) is amazing, maybe him.

Do you have any aspirations at this point to move into directing movies at some later point?

No, I don’t really want to do that. I’m a performer, and that’s all. I like being told what to do. I don’t really want to tell anyone else, except maybe my partner.

How would people you grew up with describe you when you were younger?

Depends on who you talk to I suppose. I have always loved attention and never been shy. No one who has known me growing up was the slightest bit surprised that I do porn now. I’ve always been a bit off the beaten path and adventurous. I was that girl in Missouri who one day was like, “Okay, Screw this I’m going to Australia.” Everyone was sort of like, yeah, uh huh. Then I moved there, alone, at 16 and they knew that I was out of my mind.

What do you like to do for fun when you aren’t working? Any hobbies?

I love to read. I like to work out and run. I try to find 5k’s to complete in when I can. I like being outside or around animals. I also happen to be a great cook!

Can you share a silly or embarrassing story for your fans?

This isn’t porn related but it’s my most embarrassing story. I was in choir freshman year of high school, and we were doing a concert in front of the whole school: parents, students, you name it. We had a dance routine of sorts on the risers we were standing on. I lost my footing and rolled down three levels out onto the middle of the floor with my dress over my head. I was mortified. I got back up and kept singing though.
