Interview with Amy Matthews

March 22, 2010 by

Hello Amy, for those who might not know you, what is your name and please describe yourself?

My name is Amy Matthews and I’m an erotic artist.or a cartoon pornographer if you want to call it that. I’m fine with either title, really. I like drawing stylized, explicit images with an animation influenced look.

You run CartoonPink.com, for those that don’t know what that is, please explain.

CartoonPink.com is where I display my naughty paintings. It’s still in the early phases, and I’m really looking forward to launching the membership side as well as making books and prints available. Right now, it’s a portfolio for the art that I do. I keep a blog and update it with new drawings as I complete them so people can see what I’m up to and there are several of my paintings there to share my previous work.

What got you interested in producing erotic art?

It’s funny, I’ve always wanted to do it but I had never really sat down and created a whole themed project until recently. It began as an experiment, to see how far I could push the sexuality of a cartoony image. My goal was to take these images as far as I could, in an explicit sense, while still retaining sweetness with the characters. There’s a lot of “cartoon porn” out there, and for the most part I don’t really enjoy looking at it. So, CartoonPink was a way for me to create something sexually exciting in a style that I enjoyed. Since then, I’ve been doing lots of paintings and the collection is quickly growing! I’m having fun!

Late last year Digital Playground issued a calendar of their contract girls as painted by you. How did this collaboration come about?

I had an opportunity to share my work with Joone, founder of Digital Playground. He was very enthusiastic about my artwork and we discussed a bunch of different ideas. The calendar just sort of “happened”. We’re still discussing a variety of really exciting projects for CartoonPink and Digital Playground, and in the meantime he really wanted to see what a calendar would look like. With CartoonPink style illustrations of their contract girls, it was a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to doing more work with them!

All the work that you have on your website is either a solo girl or girl/girl action. Have you ever done anything involving males?

I’ve drawn male characters before, but never for CartoonPink. I’m steering away from that for a couple of reasons. First of all, I’m much better at drawing girls. I’ve never really been that great at drawing guys, they sort of turn out weird looking. But also, I wanted to maintain a very soft feel with CartoonPink, and capture a beauty and sweetness that I think would be difficult to do if the images involved guys. Again, there’s lots of cartoon porn out there with images of guys, so I’m carving out my own niche by doing what I do.and painting what I enjoy the most.

Do you offer custom artwork?

Yup! I am certainly available for custom artwork. I’ve done illustration and design as my “regular gig”, and unfortunately I have worked on some really boring jobs! So, CartoonPink is a way for me to work on some far more exciting images. If anyone wants any custom, naughty drawings I’m up for it!

Who are some of the people that you would love to draw but for whatever reason haven’t had a chance to?

Oh goodness, let’s see. I think Justine Joli would make a great CartoonPink painting. As would Aletta Ocean, she’s amazing looking! I’d love to paint them both, but there are also so many more that I have my eye on!

How would people back home describe you when you were growing up?

Probably kind of a geek. Other than my interest in coloring my hair various, strange shades I was pretty quiet and shy. I’ve never really been very social and would much rather spend time reading, drawing and working on art projects. I’m pretty much the same now, really. Not a whole lot has changed in that department.

What sort of things do you like to do when you aren’t working? Any hobbies?

I’m quickly becoming sort of a health nut. I’m into exercise and healthy foods. I wish I had more time to experiment with making different kinds of healthy foods. I’ve become pretty addicted to working out and it’s done a lot of good for me as a whole. Other than that I love J-Pop, porn and hope to be able to have a garden before too long. See.I told you: “geek”.

Are there any projects or special events coming up that you would like to promote, if so please do so?

Yes! I’m going to have my work in an art show this year! Yay! Strychnin Gallery, located in Germany, will be showcasing two canvas prints of mine in their “Edge of Love” show. I’m excited about this, as it will be CartoonPink’s first appearance in an art gallery. Pretty cool! I’m also playing around with a couple of different ideas for books, animation and graphic novels. I’m excited about this year because I see lots of potential for really cool projects on the way!
