I’m an erotic photographer/director/producer who has been working in the adult industry for almost 17 years.
Normally I’d ask how you got into the industry but everyone knows that both of your parents were running their own studio and taking pictures when you were a child so you more or less grew up in the industry. What I would like to know is what was it like back then and when did you know what your parents were doing?
As I child, I don’t think I thought my parents were any different than any others. I always knew what they did, though as a kid I don’t know how much I understood, but that wasn’t really interesting to me when I was young. What I cared about is that they were good parents who loved me and spent time with me and raised me well.
You have your own website (HollyRandall.com) where you shoot mostly solo girls and the occasional couples scenes. How did you decide to start your own site and what was your vision for it?
I really wanted a place on the internet where I could shoot what I wanted, not necessarily what my clients wanted. It gives me an outlet to be creative and really shoot the kind of content that I love. I wanted to be able to produce beautiful, sexy images in everything from girl-next-door to “fashion porn” to fetish.
On top of all this you also recently launched a crowdfunding endeavor on TubeStart (https://www.tubestart.com/projects/inside-the-pornstar/7627) called Inside the Pornstar. What is this project and why did you decide to raise the money in this manner?
Inside the Pornstar is a series a friend of mine and I planned for a YouTube channel. I wanted to demystify the public’s perception of porn and the girls who perform in it. I wanted to show how the modern porn star is a career-oriented, smart, and driven woman. Since I work with so many different girls in the industry, I have insight into who I think will be an interesting interview and really be able to give you a glimpse of what working in porn is really like. I also wanted you to really get to know what these girls are like in person, to see them as real people with real personalities and opinions.
I haven’t yet, I’m just trying to get these initial three interviews off the ground before we start planning any more. But I definitely have ideas of who I’d like to interview next and I’m happy to take suggestions!
I have to ask this because I found it interesting that you went with TubeStart. What I am wondering is why you decided to go with them instead of a more well known site like Kickstarter or IndieGoGo? Did you just like their setup more or was it more, as I suspect, that you didn’t think that the others would allow you to try and fund your project through them because it involves the porn world even though it isn’t anything pornographic about the project.
Tubestart had the best toolset for the job, they’re automated reward delivery made it easier to manage, and they’re adult friendly.
What was it like for you the first time you worked on a set?
I think it was Azlea Anstistia and Brad Armstrong. My mom let me come onto set to shoot some “artsy” BTS photos with color infrared film, this was back before we went digital, and I loved playing around with different types of film. She was a little uncomfortable with me being on set at first, so she would shoo me into the way way back and I’d be using my zoom lens to try and get some shots. It was a little intimidating, but I soon got used to being around naked people having sex. Now nothing phases me.
What advice would you give someone who was thinking about getting in the adult industry?
Be sure that this is something you really want to do, once you’re on the internet there’s no taking it back. It can be a wonderful business to work in, it gives you more creative freedom and opportunities than most jobs, but be sure you’re the right kind of person for it and you won’t have any regrets. Also be prepared to work hard and be professional, it’s very competitive these days, the girls with staying power are the ones who focus on giving it their best, and being responsible with their decisions.
Who are the people you would love to work with but haven’t had the chance to yet?
Oh man there’s so many; Eva Lovia, Kissa Sins, Vicki Chase, Annika Albright, the list goes on!
Who would you say your idols are, either within the industry or not?
What sort of things do you like to do when you aren’t working? Any hobbies?
I box for exercise, I like to cook, travel and mostly read. I’m a voracious reader.
Are there any projects or special events coming up that you would like to promote, if so please do so?
My first movie is coming out at the end of the summer! It’s called True Erotica and I shot it for Adult DVD Empire. I’m very excited for everyone to see it, I put a lot of work and heart into it.
