The Accidental Voyeur: Ashley, Audrey and Me

I guess it’s time to confess my strange new hobby, one that’s probably weird even among porn fans. I mean, really, how many people do you know who collect movies where they can say they were actually there? As we industry insiders are well aware, it’s not unusual to be on sets without ever seeing the final film — mainly because some movies take so long to get released after they’ve been shot that they invariably get lost in the mists of time – so it became my newfound mission: to collect movies on DVD that I’d actually witnessed first-hand, either while officially covering it for reportage or merely attending as an observer.

That’s easier said than done, since I’ve found it impossible to locate some of them — one Robby D gonzo title, for example, was so old it had actually been deleted from the Vivid back catalog – but I was compelled to forge on after seeing some I did track down that were really good. These included Flesh for Fantasy (my very first shoot, which I wrote up and published in Penthouse Variations, October 1999) and Café Flesh 3 (shot in September 2003, the first time I ever met Sunset Thomas in person, after watching her perform a scene with three guys, totally exhausting them). Then, a few weeks ago as I celebrated yet another birthday, a package marked “educational material” arrived from Adult DVD Empire. It was a movie I’d spent a long time finding, my birthday present to myself, the only one that had eluded me so far, for so long – eight years, in fact.

I’d been on the set at TTS Studios in North Hollywood on March 29, 2007, invited by one of Michael Ninn’s publicists who’d told me the working title was Filth Factory #3, a Ninnworx movie directed by Otto Bauer. Whenever I did an online search, however, I could never find it. Did it not ever get released, for contractual or legal reasons or some such? But I had some clues. I could still vividly remember two things from that afternoon.

The first was seeing Audrey Hollander completely naked and looking so ravishingly gorgeous, walking out to greet me as I walked in, giving me such a great big hug that I naturally let myself fall into her warm embrace (I was, unlike her, fully clothed so of course I’ll never forget that). The second was the explosive scene I witnessed whereby Ashley Blue took on two guys, and this eventually became the key to the puzzle after I enlisted the help of Mark Kernes, Senior Editor at AVN, always my go-to guy whenever I needed to track down anything in adult entertainment. Mark put me in direct contact with Otto Bauer (whom I couldn’t reach because he had, as I’d correctly suspected, changed phone numbers).

He was initially just as baffled when I got him on the phone. “I don’t remember a movie called Filth Factory #3 but a scene with Ashley Blue in March 2007, that sounds familiar, “ he mused. “Wasn’t that shot in North Hollywood?” When I affirmed that, indeed, he and I had met at TTS Studio on Sherman Way, he sounded intrigued, especially after I added that Audrey (then his wife, though they divorced in 2011) was in it too. It was a tall order asking him to go back eight years, but he was really nice about it. “I think that one did come out, but under another title,” he said. “I’ll try to remember it, buddy, I’ll find it for you.”

So I’d been on a wild goose chase, trying to find the wrong title! An email loop followed as Otto and Mark both put their heads together and, a few days later, we eventually hit the jackpot. The movie was indeed released but entitled Pain for Fame, under Otto’s own imprint Supercore. And sure enough, when it came to me via UPS, the back of the boxcover said: “Production Date: 3/29/07” and the female talent in this wall-to-wall flick did indeed comprise Ashley Blue along with Sophie Dee, Marie Luv, Maya Gates and, of course, Audrey Hollander.

Ashley Blue, as evident from her 2011 memoir Girlvert, is quite the queen of perversity. I’d arrived after the opening tease scene, so I didn’t get to see her doing a solo but I now know that it began with her licking her own stiletto heel, then drawing her tongue across the sole of the shoe, and finally impaling her own asshole with the same thin heel (Hmm, was that shot for the foot fetishists or the anal addicts?) I did get there in time for the three-way that followed, so I watched her deep-throat two guys in her signature style, fisting her own mouth to prep her gag reflex and then rotating one cock after the other with lots of dripping, drooling saliva at play. She also has a delightful way of hinting at the camera with a knowing smile while presenting her bare posterior (as in the photo above), often with one hand clutching each ass cheek, and she glides across multiple positions with effortless grace, even during double penetration.

That can only occur when a girl has the years of experience behind her to sexualize herself that way. I’ve been on enough shoots to know, and I’m a sucker for expertise embedded in subtleties — the deft sleight of hand during a blowjob, the smooth turn of thigh that offers visual access to landing strip and labial fold, that repertoire of moves unique to real porn stars. As Casey Calvert boldly noted in one of her blogs from last April: “The act of putting a penis in a vagina (or a mouth or a butthole) by itself doesn’t mean anything emotionally for me,” she wrote. “There are so many things that two people can do that are way more intimate than just having sex . . . Sure, after a long week of working, I don’t want to have a dick inside me. But there are still other things I want to do, other things I still crave . . . Those other things are my sex drive. “

I couldn’t agree more, because my own kink is exhibitionism — when a girl parts her own vulva while looking you right in the eye so you know she’s expressing her shameless pride. Marie Luv and Maya Gates, in this movie, do exactly that though Marie also gets a slow-burning anal piledriver and Maya does a spitroast with two guys, things you wouldn’t really want to try at home but reflecting perfectly Otto’s self-explanatory title, Pain for Fame. I also love the “Behind the Scenes” section, which finds Otto asking Audrey (kneeling, totally naked again, naturally) to respond to a letter from a female fan in Burlington, Vermont about her own pre-anal preparation routines. She answers while sucking him, generously slurping on his cock and only pausing to utter useful advice in phrases (“Be diligent about your practices . . . Put a buttplug up your ass just for five or ten minutes at a time”).

That sequence triggered a nice flashback for me,  from real life — not of any self-imposed buttplugs but rather of witty banter exchanged during fellatio and/or cunnilingus. Been there, done that too (and thanks again, Audrey!) And thus, my eight-year wait was made worthwhile. Blessed are they who have not seen and yet believe? Seeing is believing, and these movies are my way of keeping the faith.
