Hi, I’m Danny Sexbang, lead singer of the comedy band Ninja Sex Party and co-host of the Youtube let’s-play show Game Grumps. Recently, I was invited to attend the AVN Adult Expo in Las Vegas. I like boobs, so I went.

It was a lot different than I imagined it would be. Here were the 5 most surprising things I learned.

1. Porn Stars are generally really nice – I don’t know why I pictured porn stars to be aloof and hard to engage with, but most of the ones I met were super cool and down to earth. They were certainly more free and open with their sexuality than the general public, but that didn’t change the fact that they were “normal” folks who were kind and very appreciative of their careers. It was actually sort of moving to see them interact with the fans so genuinely. You’d think a conversation between two strangers would be awkward when one is so intimately familiar with the other’s junk, but it wasn’t the case.

2. The business of porn is cleaner than you’d think – Maybe this only applies to mainstream porn, but I was surprised to learn that most porn stars have to go undergo STD testing procedure once every 15 days. Considering I know plenty of everyday people who avoid testing for all kinds of reasons, it makes me wonder if sleeping with porn stars is actually one of the safer ways to go. You’d basically just have to get over the emotional aspect of dating a woman who’s used to seeing huge dicks. Like, crazy huge. Dicks that belong in a museum. Zoo dicks.

3. Many people use buttplugs that have long furry tails attached so they look like animals when they wear them – That’s something I know about now. I’ve seen things that I can’t unsee.

4. Many porn stars are married – Whether their partners are involved with the industry or live outside of it, a lot of adult stars are romantically committed outside of their work. That was surprising to me, and would probably require a level of trust and openness that a lot of us don’t have. It makes me wonder if many porn stars are just wired differently than most people. Do they get jealous when they see their partner enjoying a scene a little too much? Who knows. I guess there are a lot of different roads to happiness, and just about anything is cool as long as it works for you and the person you’re with.

5. Porn expos are not that different than other conventions – My first reaction when I walked into the convention center was “Wow, this is like Comic-con but with boobs!” Then I remembered that Comic-con has tons of boobs, so I had to revise my statement to “Holy shit! This is like Comic-con with ALL the boobs!” All of the staples of mainstream comic/anime/hobby conventions were there: people dressed in costume, the gentle insanity of being part of a constantly moving crowd, and the nerdy devotion to a world that’s usually experienced alone in a room, but is suddenly all around you where you can literally stand there and watch Anime Tentacle sex 6 Dicks with other people.

I somehow expected the experience to be much wilder and intimidating, but it was actually kind of peaceful. Yes, it’s different than most cons because if you pick up any DVDs or pictures you’re probably going to see some stuff going into some other stuff….but in the end, it was simply a convention. Everyone was there to have a good time and feel connected to something they enjoy, and that’s something I think we can definitely all respect.

Final Recommendation: Go check out the AVN Expo next year if you can. It’s was a lot of fun! Also, wear a sparkly jumpsuit if you have one. I did, and I think it really helped!
