The UNLV Special Collections and Archives and the UNLV College of Liberal Arts Department of Interdisciplinary, Gender, and Ethnic Studies is extending a public invitation for their new program’s launch. Sponsored by the Erotic Heritage Museum for the new collecting area, the Sexual Entertainment and Economies event will be held on Thursday, January 25th, from 1-8 pm, at the UNLV’s Beverly Rogers Literature & Law Building, Room 101.

This event will include an afternoon symposium and an evening reception with a discussion with the donors of the inaugural collection, Shar Rednour and Jackie Strano. Complimentary refreshments will be provided.

As the museum’s director, Dr. Victoria Hartmann, offers, “The preservation and archiving of sexual materials provides an unfiltered look into the most intimate spaces human beings share. It gives us insight into how people express themselves sexually unencumbered by propriety and the judgments of others. Nevada has a unique history as being one of the few states where sexuality has entire industries built around it – from topless shows to legal brothels. The EHM is thrilled to sponsor this initiative at UNLV and its efforts to create a foundation for academics to pursue studies in Human Sexuality at a top-tier University.”

The UNLV College of Liberal Arts has established their new initiative “to preserve the history of sexual entertainment, culture and economies in Southern Nevada and beyond,” a rep. from UNLV stated. “This program will include collections on sex worker rights and activism, feminist entrepreneurship, adult film and media, and the history of Nevada’s legal brothel industry.”

The Erotic Heritage Museum was built as a sex-positive educational, entertainment, and exhibition space, celebrating the diversity of sexuality as it has been explored and enjoyed through history, multiple cultures, and the ever-evolving global perspective of modern mores.

This is a free event.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA (UNLV) COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS

The College of Liberal Arts at UNLV provides a well-rounded humanities and social sciences education. Boasting more than one hundred and seventy faculty members and degrees offered in nineteen disciplines, UNLV’s Liberal Arts curriculum fosters student intellectual development and growth in studying both the past and present, to gain a better understanding of people and society.

ABOUT THE EROTIC HERITAGE MUSEUM

The Erotic Heritage Museum houses more than 24,000 square feet of permanent and featured exhibits, championing the wonders of erotic imagination as depicted through artistic expressions of sex and love. The museum’s ethos is that sexual pleasure and its depiction are natural aspects of the human experience and that such celebrations of individual human sexuality (i.e., pleasure) must be made available to all, regardless of gender, race, or belief.

With so much global erotic heritage undervalued, criticized, or even lost over time, the EHM is dedicated to the preservation of as much erotic heritage as is possible to display. Scouring the world for its exhibitions, The Harry Mohney Erotic Museum furthers its purpose by providing space for scientific and literary functions relating to sexual, emotional, mental, and physical health. As such, the EHM is as much an assemblage of some of the most important sexual artifacts, tableau, and interactive exhibitions in the world as it is a one-of-a-kind lecture and classroom space. In addition to the Museum space, the EHM’s main theatre is home to the highly popular live show, “Puppetry of the Penis, as well as film festivals, burlesque shows, and more.

As the Sexiest Museum in Sin City and a rare North American museum dedicated to studying sexuality, the Erotic Heritage Museum is a must-go attraction for any tourist visiting Las Vegas. The Erotic Heritage Museum is owned and managed by the Harry Mohney Erotic Museum LCC, a Nevada corporation located at 3275 Sammy Davis Jr Dr, Las Vegas, NV 89109.
