Interview with Andi Land

Hello Andi, for those who might not know you please let us know you are and please describe yourself?

Hi! My name is Andi Land, and I've been in the web model niche of the adult industry for 15 years. There aren't too many of us left from those earlier days that have still stuck to solo or g/g scenes only, so I like to joke that I'm a “dinosaur of softcore”. You might have seen me in some magazines back in the day, such as Hustler’s Barely Legal, Gallery, and Tight, to name a few. I enjoyed modeling for others in the past, but I prefer to exclusively perform for my own website now.

I would describe myself as a business savvy free spirit, it’s all about balance. I’m also kind of nerdy, very family oriented, and an avid cat enthusiast.

What prompted you to join the adult industry?

I did a test shoot with a local mainstream photographer when I was 18. On my end, it was extremely innocent. I was looking to have some headshots and portraits done, and the shoot was fully clothed. He was trying to break into the adult industry and posted some photos from our shoot on GFY, which was the main adult webmaster board at the time. Someone made him an offer to do a solo site with me, and he relayed the info to me. At the time, I had no idea what a solo site was. I hadn't ever considered posing nude online before and it wasn't something that I actively sought out. One thing I knew was that I hated the double standards and stigmatization that exists against women, how we are sexualized whether we are masturbating on the internet or simply standing in line at the grocery store wearing open toed sandals (hello, foot fans!), and then blamed and shamed by society for it.

These ideas were not at all unique, but I was ignorant of all of this — the only thing I knew for sure was that I thought it was all BS, and I wanted to spark a little controversy, so I figured what better way to do that than by baring it all on the internet!

Seeing that we are still in the middle of the Covid-19 lock down, how would you say you are adjusting and how has it affected your work?

At first, it felt very surreal. I'm sure many people can relate to that sentiment. As time goes on, it's just becoming “the new normal” and I have to say, I'm adjusting quite well! I love being at home and I'm used to working from home most of the time anyway, so that wasn't a major change for me. One way it has affected my work is that I can't currently schedule any professional photo shoots right now, so I've been shooting a lot more self-shot/homemade scenes to compensate for this by making sure my website still has fresh new content every week!

Like many people in the industry, you have an OnlyFans. For those that haven’t checked yours own, what kind of content do you have on there and what would you say is your favorite kind of content to put up?

I do! I love posting on my OnlyFans page and update it daily! I post a lot of shorter video clips I shoot with my phone, random photos from my daily life, exclusive updates, and samples from some of my professional scenes. I also post full nudes and explicit content straight to the timeline instead of in locked PPV messages. I keep the price point low (less than $8!) and each month I send out an exclusive free full length masturbation video for all subscribers that have their auto-renew turned on, which in itself is worth more than the subscription fee.

Overall, it has a more casual vibe that I think conveys a lot of realism, which my fans are enjoying. They get to see the real me “behind the scenes” and at home. To add to the realism, I also don't edit or retouch any of the photos I post on there. If there are video bloopers, I post those too. People love sexy but they also love silly and funny!

My favorite kind of content to put up is videos, because it's so fast and easy! For my main website, I'm used to having to download raw video files, run them through my editing software, slap my watermark on them, render them, format them, and upload them… it's not tricky, but it can be time consuming. In comparison, with OnlyFans I just shoot a video with my phone, and upload it straight to the site. It's a drastic change for me and it also allows me more time to produce extra content!

You also have a subscription site on top of all of this. What lead to its creation and how has it evolved over the years?

Yup, that’s right! My first subscription site is how I entered the industry, that one was active from 2005-2008. I didn't really like how I was portrayed and wanted more control over my content, and also wanted to be paid a fair amount. Things were different in those days, and it wasn’t unusual for the model to have very little control over her content and image, and it was easy for webmasters to exploit talent since we didn’t really have a voice online before sites like Twitter allowed us to connect directly with fans. So, I launched AndiLand.com in 2010 and it's been going strong ever since, with over 30,000 photos and 500 videos! If you told me back then that 10 years later it would still be thriving, I don't know if I would have believed you. It has certainly evolved in a few ways. The quality of my content has improved, partly because of new tech developments (better cameras, plug-ins, etc.), and also partly because I've been able to learn and grow a lot since I process it all of my content myself. For example, I can look at photo sets from several years ago and cringe at the color balance being off, because I didn't really know what the heck I was doing.

Many fans are members of both my main site and my OnlyFans, because each one offers different things. My main site is definitely where you can get “the most bang for your buck” and get instant access to all of my full-length scenes and photo sets for one flat rate, plus live webcam shows which is the best way to interact with me.

Seeing that you are Canadian, how would you describe Canadians views on sex and sexuality as compared to other countries that you have visited or interacted with?

Well, I've only ever visited the USA, so my experiences are rather limited. I will say that Canadian views on sex and sexuality seem to vary by region. I live on the prairies in central Canada, and while things have noticeably become more progressive here in the last decade, as a lot of people here – even in bigger cities – still hold outdated conservative attitudes that are more common in rural areas in other regions. In my opinion, the most sexually progressive Canadian city is Montreal, Quebec. There, you can walk around in a thin tank top with no bra, and nobody makes an issue of it.

What advice would you give someone who wants to enter the adult industry?

Prepare for everyone you know and everyone you’ve ever met, or ever will meet, to see you naked. And make sure you're okay with that! Don't think you can do porn and then become a teacher or member of Congress. You SHOULD be able to do these things, but society still has a long way to go, so just expect it to follow you and for people to know about it for years to come.

With that being said, this has been one of the best decisions I've ever made in life, and I think that statement carries more weight considering my longevity in this industry. It has allowed me to be self-employed, with a flexible schedule, and great income. It has provided me with a wealth of opportunities to travel and meet new people over the years. It facilitated my entire university education, I finished my B.A. (Hons) in Psychology and am now working on my Masters – debt free. I also recently bought a house. Most importantly, thanks to all of these benefits, I am HAPPY!

If money wasn't an issue, what would be your dream scene or movie to make?

I'd love to re-enact Phoebe Cates' classic pool scene in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. I’d also love to hire David Attenborough to narrate one of my masturbation scenes.

Who would you say are your idols or personal heroes, either within the industry or not?

Within the industry, I’ve always been a big fan of Larry Flynt for all he’s done to fight censorship.

If you could have a conversation with anyone, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?

I’d choose a family member that has passed away, because I have so much to tell them that I wish I could get their feedback and opinions on.

What sort of things do you like to do when you aren’t working? Any hobbies?

I volunteer in mental health services in my free time, providing support to those in need. Working on my masters degree also keeps me quite busy. When I’m not doing either of those, my hobbies include game nights with friends, reading in the bath, drinking wine, trying new recipes, ice skating in winter, boating in summer, and watching bad reality TV with my cat year round.

Are there any projects or special events coming up that you would like to promote, if so please do so?

I don't have anything special coming up, but I’d like to promote AndiLand.com and my OnlyFans: AndiFans.com!
