I’m Lily Cade and I’m a lesbian porn performer and director. I’m currently nominated for two AVN awards, best all girl feature for Art School Dykes and best all girl group scene for the threesome in the same movie, and I have my own website at http://lilycade.com.
What got you interested in joining the adult industry?
I’m a really sexual person and an exhibitionist so it was never much of a stretch for me to get into porn. I was having sex on the stages and dance floors of clubs and helping all the bi-curious girls at my college stop being curious long before I was doing it front of the camera. I did my first scene because I answered a craigslist ad, and I discovered it was something I liked, and I started pursuing it as a career.
I’m a film school grad and I always wanted to be behind the camera, not that I don’t want to be in front of it of course, and direct my own projects. I started making amateur porn and selling it and moved up to directing for studios like Nightingale Pictures and Filly Films.
You are what is called a “gold-star lesbian”. For those that don’t know what that means, please explain it.
It means I’ve never been with a man. I knew I was gay in junior high and I’ve never even kissed a guy. In my circle of friends, the gold-star thing isn’t uncommon. I live with two of them but it’s rare in porn so it’s something that sets me apart.
You have directed a couple movies so far for Filly Films. One just came out called Hard Working Girls. What can you tell us about directing this movie for Filly Films?
Hard Working Girls is my blue-collar themed movie. I think that no nonsense chicks and girls in uniform are hot, so I wanted to make a movie about that. I also wanted to play around with some of the more common porn tropes, like the housewife and the plumber or the pizza boy who delivers some sex along with the pizza. I like making movies that are funny or clever as well as hot. I wanted the sex in this movie to be intense and hard, so I cast girls that I knew would give me that kind of strong performance. I really like scenes with aggressive mutual passion.
You also just finished shooting Live Nerd Girls. What can you tell us about this movie and what is this particular movie about?
Live Nerd Girls is a movie that means a lot to me. I wanted to make a movie that celebrated nerd culture without being pandering. I cast girls that are nerds in real life and I put them in scenarios that centered on different parts of geekdom; comic books, tabletop roleplaying games, video games and sci-fi conventions/cosplay. The sex is softer than in Hard Working Girls; more romantic and less aggressive, except my scene with Lily LaBeau, which is pretty intense. It looks great and I can’t wait for it to come out.
Directing definitely. Performing can be work. Sometimes it’s physically demanding, sometimes my scene partner doesn’t give a lot back and I have to kind of do her job for her, sometimes it’s very intense emotionally but when I’m directing, I have to write scripts, cast the movie, shoot the movie, obtain costumes and props, deal with paperwork, and troubleshoot disasters. Like being locked out of a location, or having a model cancel last minute. I love both jobs though, and I’m really happy doing what I’m doing.
You have a pay site as well, LilyCade.com. What can your fans expect to see when they go to that site?
My site is all porn of me with different girls. Although I do some scripted stuff, it’s mostly amateur style and I focus on working with girls I have good chemistry with. I put up a new hardcore video every Wednesday. I love shooting for my site, and I shoot content all the time so I can keep up with my update schedule.
What would you say was your favorite scene that you shot, either as a performer or director?
That’s really hard. As a director, it’s probably the pizza boy scene with Dylan Ryan and India Summer from Hard Working Girls because both performers played their parts so perfectly and the sex was my kind of intensity, but I’ve shot so many scenes that I love.
As a performer, I really don’t know. I’ve worked with so many amazing women that it’s really hard to pick a favorite. Some recent scenes I’m really proud of are my scene with Kara Price in Hard Working Girls and my scene with Lily LaBeau in Live Nerd Girls.
What advice would you give someone that is thinking about entering the adult industry?
I think it’s important to know who you are and what you want out of porn. I love my job, but some people get burned. Porn’s a really positive experience if you’re doing it because you want to do it but it can really suck if you’re doing it because you feel like you have nowhere else to turn.
How would people back home describe you when you were growing up?
Smart and weird. I was this awkward, Star Trek loving, Quenya-Elvish-speaking teenager who spent all my lunch breaks in the library. I played D&D. I was captain of the science bowl team. I went to CalTech. I came out of my shell in a very big way mid high school. I set that as a goal for myself, with goal posts like “have two girlfriends at the same time”, but I’m still kind of a nerd.
What sort of things do you like to do when you aren’t working? Any hobbies?
I like horseracing. I worked on a racehorse farm and I live right by Santa Anita racetrack. I generally make money if I bet but adultme has nothing on kid me. I used to spend a ton of time at the track and watching racing on TV and I was sharp. I like movies and go to a lot of screenings, thanks USC. I’m a good cook and I like to throw dinner parties and entertain in general. I love having people around. I also play more video games than I should and sometimes sew and knit.
Are there any other projects or special events coming up that you would like to promote, if so please do so?
I’ve got more movies coming out from Filly, including Butches and Babes which is a butch/femme movie and the strap-on movie I’m shooting right now which doesn’t have a name yet. I just got back from San Francisco, where I managed to shoot an outdoor strap-on scene with Kara Price and Audrey Rose that is super-hot. Of course I’m stoked about my two AVN nominations and am definitely looking forward to Vegas.
