(Los Angeles, CA) — The adult entertainment industry is mourning the passing of iconic photographer and director Richard Avery at age 53.

The prolific lensman, who in 2005 launched the wildly popular Juliland Universe with adult film superstar Juli Ashton, shot more than 250,000 photos of 200+ models, directed over 1,000 web videos for Juliland.com, produced over 700+ episodes of podcasts for JulilandRadio.com and worked alongside some of the biggest names in the business, including Bobbi Starr, Jada Stevens, Samantha Bentley, Ash Hollywood, Aiden Ashley, Angela White, Phoenix Marie, Audrey Bitoni and many more.

Born in Santa Cruz, California on April 1, 1970, Avery, who first surfaced in New York in the mid ‘90s, was known for his unmistakable style – bold and brash! The exact same way he lived his life, while being known as an incorrigible thrill seeker who worked hard and played harder. Those who knew and loved him will always remember him as loyal, reliable and honorable.
Being published in more than 50 magazines and books, Avery’s high-profile work followed in the footsteps of the legendary erotic photographer Helmut Newton, as well as fashion photographers Richard Avedon, Irving Penn and Peter Lindberg. His unique vision was a bright, gifted talent in the erotic filmmaking scene, allowing him to utilize models, lighting, camera angles, wardrobe, makeup and advanced digital imaging technologies in an unparalleled way to effortlessly capture the beauty and seduction of the human form in the most artistic, erotic and unexpected ways..
Avery is survived by only his family, fans and friends, and will be long remembered for his unmatched creativity, his passion for women and art and his desire to experience unbridled joy and playfulness in any situation. He was known for saying, “If it’s not going to be fun, then I’m not showing up!”
Ashton eulogized her dear friend of 30 years, saying that his photography was described as “brilliant, innovative, imaginative, ageless and hip by both art and fashion critics the world over. While his photographs brought him instant commercial success as well as a growing reputation and legions of fans, Avery’s work also brought him an admirer that would change his world forever.”
