Begun in South Korea as a way for women there to protest the patriarchal government/society of that country. If you are unaware of it, the 4B movement was born on four simple rules, all starting with “bi,” which means “no” in Korean:
- Biyeonae: No dating men
- Bisekseu: No sex with men
- Bihon: No marriage
- Bichulsan: No child-rearing
The above principals have seen the country’s birth rate retard, with presently over 150 South Korean elementary schools seeing no first-graders presently in school. But what will happen if 4B takes hold in other places, most notably the US where it seems to be on the rise, as a direct result of Donald Trump just winning the election? His critics fear that Trump and other Republicans will seek ever more restrictions on abortion and women’s rights in general.
Whether this seeming feminist left-leaning stance will bear fruit in America or fuel a self-punishment, male-hating rhetoric, is a subjective consideration. What does seem factual though is that 4B is increasing in popularity and surely it espouses a certain lifestyle that pretty much puts the kibosh on intimacy.
Surely, in the kink community Lock-tober and the No-Nut-November challenge fall across the two fall months, and see many men abstaining from orgasm, masturbation, and intimacies. But these are restrictions that a couple engage in power-play games, a mistress might order her slave, or self-torture for the man who simply wants to enact a little sub-play in his life. This kind of ‘staving off’ is centered around the denial of sexual pleasure and release, as a pleasurable/sexual/erotic act…or non-act as the case may be. There is no political or cultural agenda being served in this type of chastity, and no real cross-continent movement is being built because of it.
Where the increase in 4B might lead is as unknown as where Trump might.
