Renee Olstead joins the hosts of The Worst of All Possible Worlds podcast for a deep dive into Paul Verhoeven’s notorious 1995 cult classic Showgirls.
The two-hour episode, “Showgirls, featuring Renee Olstead”, finds the actress, recording artist, therapist and reigning Penthouse Pet of the Year chatting with hosts A.J. Ditty, Josh Boerman and Brian Alford in a spirited conversation that tackles the absurdity, artistry and unintended solidarity of Showgirls, with topics such as the chaos of Joe Eszterhas’s screenplay, the surreal edits in the infamous VH1 cut, and the movie’s enduring reputation as both a disaster and a feminist Rorschach test.
“I had so much fun chatting with A.J., Josh and Brian about this gloriously campy disasterpiece,” said Olstead. “The time completely flew by. We laughed a lot, shared some wildly specific observations, and somehow managed to make a two-hour conversation about Showgirls feel like it still wasn’t enough. I had the best time.”
Olstead, known for her roles in The Secret Life of the American Teenager and Unfriended, has released four albums across pop, jazz, and country genres, and now also works as a therapist specializing in the adult entertainment industry.
